Job Description
The Onboarding Specialist (Distribution Centre) coordinates the end-to-end integration of new hires, from pre-employment processing to full operational productivity. This role bridges HR and warehouse operations to ensure all new team members—such as pickers, packers, and forklift operators—are safe, equipped, and confident in their daily workflows.
Key Responsibilities.
Pre-Onboarding & Orientation
Manage pre-employment requirements, including background checks and required medical screenings.
Prepare and distribute welcome kits, safety gear (PPE), and access badges prior to the first day.
Conduct engaging, informative facility tours and onboarding sessions.
Safety & Compliance Training
Instruct new hires on mandatory workplace health and safety (WHS) protocols and emergency evacuation procedures.
Coordinate specialized training and certifications (e.g., forklift, pallet jack operation) prior to floor deployment.
Ensure strict adherence to DC compliance regulations and labor laws.
Operational Integration & Mentorship
Pair new workers with experienced floor mentors or "buddies" to ensure smooth day-to-day transitions.
Track individual learning curves, ensuring employees hit standard pick/pack or throughput metrics.
Manage the setup of Warehouse Management System (WMS) access and relevant operational software.
Feedback & Retention
Conduct routine check-ins (at 30, 60, and 90 days) to gather feedback and address operational anxieties.
Develop metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of the onboarding program and reduce early turnover.
