We live in a world where technology is shaping our future and many programming languages contribute to that. Among these languages, the most common and versatile is Java.

Java is used to design light and fast customized applications that serve multiple purposes. The main roles and responsibilities of a java developer are to design, develop, and manage Java-based applications. It is used by nearly every company in the world, whether big or small, including Amazon and Google.

A Java developer is one position that is in high demand in the world of Information Technology.

Steps to Become Java Developer

Understand OOPs principles to the core

Java developers must have a solid understanding of OOPs (Object-Oriented Programming). Knowledge of OOPs principles includes a strong grip on operators, loops, arrays, the concept of polymorphism, what design patterns are, what inheritance is, etc.

Be proficient in core APIs

To be an excellent Java developer, you need to understand the language constructors and core APIs. For Java, you need to have first hand experience with java. lang.*, I/O, exceptions, collections, generics, threads, JDBC, and so on. For developing web applications, you must understand the concepts around servlets and JSPs.

Utilize Servlets and JSP for projects

Sharpen your mind by combining Java EE with Front End technologies like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and create mini-projects on specific topics. Do make projects using Servlet and ISP as well to polish your skills. It is through these mini-projects that you will be sure that you know enough about programming languages.

Move on to Hibernate and Spring Frameworks

After you’ve got a strong grasp on Java EE and Java SE, move on to Java Frameworks like Hibernate Framework and Spring Framework, the two most popular frameworks in the world of Java. Many Java Development Companies use Spring frameworks such as Spring Boot and Spring Cloud to develop a web application. Hibernate framework, on the other hand, is used to map a domain object-oriented model to a relational database. As long as you master these frameworks and are able to make projects using them, your chances of getting selected for the role of a Java developer in top-notch companies are higher.

Code and code away

Theory alone will not make you a good developer. You need to keep practicing and keep coding. This way, you will learn to fix obstacles you face along the way. Practice makes perfect so keep coding.

Seek help when necessary

There are many forums you can subscribe to. Many people in your field utilize these forums to find solutions to issues that you won’t normally find in other documents. This is the best way to keep abreast with the latest technology, updates, and trends as well.

Network

Join communities dedicated to people of your profession on job-oriented social media sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook. Engage in discussions for exposure. Also, there are many blogs you could check out to keep you informed. As there are many developers, reading other developer’s blogs will give you different perspectives and discover useful framework features. If you need any clarification regarding the content of the blog, you could always ask the writer in the comment section.

Decipher open-source frameworks’ source code

In order to use frameworks in a more effective way, you must decipher the source code of different op-notch and well-known frameworks and see the internal working mechanism of the frameworks.

Stay abreast with the latest tech trends

The chances of a new framework with new features being introduced while you are still working on yours are very high. So, always be on the lookout for what’s new and what’s old.

Save commonly used code snippets/utilities

There are times where you will have to write/copy-paste the same piece of code/configuration. So, save configuration snippets like log4.properties, JDBC configuration, etc., and utilities like StringUtils, ReflectionUtils, DBUtils for future reference.

Familiarize yourself with different development methodologies

Agile, SCRUM, XP, and Waterfall, among others, are some of the various kinds of methodologies that you must know as a developer as your clients will be asking for different methodologies.

Share your success

To be a successful Java developer, it is important to brand yourself. So, write blogs on your works and thoughts that will potentially help others.
