Career options for women in and after their 50s

Jobs for women

We’ve said it time and time again that age is just a number. Well, it’s worth repeating because it couldn’t be more true. The numbers of our age do not determine our potential.

A report by The Telegraph found that in a research done out of 4,000 people over the age of 57, a 66-year-old person was found to have a biological age of 114 while a 59-year-old person was physically just 23. Some looked younger than their actual age, while some looked older.

“We think that adverse social experiences can change your epigenetic profile in ways that may subsequently influence your health adversely,” said the study.

As you can see, you can still be young at heart and even look younger. It all depends on your lifestyle choices. Let’s take for instance Jennifer Lopez. Even in her early 50s, she still looks as young and beautiful as she did in her mid-20s, for which she credits her insane workout routine and skin care for her timelessness.

So, be it 40 or 50 or 60, it is just a number and if you want to get back to the world of work, the numbers do not stand between you and your career.

In a country like India, where for a woman pressure for marriage comes at an early age (usually early 20s), it’s easy to believe that when we reach a certain age, there are certain limits to what we can do professionally and personally.

We couldn’t disagree more…so much so that here,

So, let us find out career opportunities for women in and over their 50s India.

Own business

Whether you are selling your products online or offline, owning your own business is a good way to make money. If you are a creative person who enjoys art and craft, you could sell your DIY stuff online for reasonable prices. As you will be doing your own business online from the comfort of your own home, you will have time flexibility and enjoy the best work-life balance.

Tutor

A teacher, who oversees many students, cannot handle each of them on his own. That’s when tutors come to the rescue. As a tutor, you can choose your timings, which can be before school hour starts and after. You can charge by the hour or even weekly or monthly. The best part is you will get to choose the subject you want to teach, which will give you more confidence as well.

Interior designer

No matter the age, there are courses that will allow you to become a certified interior designer. If you have a knack for designing and enjoy decorating homes, this is the perfect job for you.

Writer

Many writers find their success only when they reach a certain age. This is because life got in their way and never had the time to follow their passion. So, if you love to write, you could become a novelist, poet, blogger, travel writer or content writer. You could join an agency or even become a freelance writer. It’s time to show the world the creative side of you.

Social worker

If you want to do something meaningful in your life, why not help those in need. NGOs are always on the lookout for volunteers to help them carry out their mission to help the helpless. While some of them may pay, some may not. If money is not what you are looking for, becoming a social worker will add more warmth to your life.

The above mentioned career options are perfect for those with long employment gap who want to get back to the world of work.

We wish you the best of luck!
